So, what comes in your mind when you think about crazy long names and surnames?

We have our share of weird experiences but whenever we think about the same, only one name stands out: SodaBottleOpenerWala (You say it 10 times and you need some water!)

We were recently invited to try out their new menu which is being served at their Lavelle road outlet in Bangalore.

Before we proceed, you will find some pretty fascinating new additions in this new menu mostly non veg but no new additions for mutton. If one wants to try the mutton preparations, then the old menu will come to their rescue.

The new items constitute only 30% of the entire menu and we were pretty satisfied with the inclusions.

Starting the drinks, we tried 6 of their signature cocktails: Mama Nu Double Dose, Maushi Chi, Bombay Julep, Finding Frenny, Old Bawa and Bumsuckerwala.

Their naming convention is quite unique and will stick to your head! All the cocktails were very well balanced and had the characteristic flavours of the ingredients used. The highlights were the whiskey cocktails: Old Bawa and Mama Nu Double Dose. The aroma as well as the kick of whiskey was very well balanced in both. Apart from these two, the Finding Frenny was delicate with citrusy flavours and a touch of cucumber.

For starters we tried the most number of items and almost all of them deserve praise. The concept, quantity, execution and the taste were unparalleled.

We tried the Paradise Chicken Roll, Keema Khari Par Eedu, Bacon Vada Pav, Bhuna Chicken Sandwich and the Parsi Styled Grilled Prawns.

Ideally it is better to experience these first hand rather than hearing about them from us, but we know you love us ;) so, here is a verdict from our side:

The Paradise Chicken Roll tasted phenomenal, mainly because of the amount of chicken, sauces and cheese in the mixture. This item is not that special, but definitely worth a try!

The Keema preparation was absolutely lip smacking! The mixture was spicy and wrapped with poached eggs. The pav was normal but the combination of the spicy keema and the eggs were just brilliant.

The bacon vada pav was a novelty and we tried this for the first time. The vada had small chunks of bacon throughout with the usual potato mixture. Instead of butter, pork fat was used to fry the Pav. The aroma and the taste were unforgettable.

The chicken bhuna sandwich could have been better, both in terms of the bread which was breaking apart and the chicken mixture. The mixture tasted good, but needed another pinch of salt and masala to achieve greatness.

The Parsi Style Grilled Prawns fits the description of a main course item. The prawns were well done, cleaned properly and had a tangy flavour. It was served with rice and a curry which had the same tanginess. The prawns were huge and we really liked the presentation of this dish.

Now, it’s time for the main course:

We tried the Squid and Prawn Patio, Paneer Sanju Baba, Malai Paratha and Bombay Chicken Biriyani.

The Squid and Prawn preparation was slightly on the sweeter side. Loads of onions in this as well as the Paneer preparation. The quantity of squid and prawns were generous but could have been a bit more.

The caramelized onions in the Paneer Sanju Baba preparation did wonders. This was also slightly sweet, wh the flavours of cumin. The paneer cubes were soft and retained the flavours of the gravy.

The Malai Paratha was one of a kind. It looked dry and lifeless but give it a tear, mix it with a gravy and have a bite! The mawa in this paratha gave richness in each bite which was spectacular.

The Chicken Biriyani had a good aroma and was light on the stomach. The chicken was well cooked. The entire combination was quite flavourful.

Lastly and as expected:

We tried 4 desserts (Yes! 4!)

For adventurous palates the Matunga Coffee Cake is a must try! It has an intense coffee flavour and is moderately bitter due to the presence of coffee. The cake was spongy and mildly sweet. The presentation was spot on.

Next up, the Lagan nu Custard gave the perfect ending. It had a creamy texture, the perfect consistency and the right amount of sweetness. The best part is that it was light on the stomach too.

The other desserts were pretty decent and worth trying: Chocolate and Peanut Butter Cheesecake and the Mixed Berry Trifle. We had a feeling that the Brownie would taste good but as we tried it last without proper palate cleansing, so we won’t comment on it.

All the items mentioned above are now a part of their regular menu: Now isn’t that great!

We tried a majority of the items from the new menu and brought them to you guys. That’s all from our side, now it’s time for you to decide what you want ;)

Do let us know about your experience in case you visit!

Till then—stay tuned and bon apetit!
